Presenting a call for submissions for an all-new videogames zine...
Magic Mirror: Art and Stories on Videogames
Magic Mirror is a lot like my previous zine series Aporia, but with a focus on fanart and fiction! As with all my zines, these are going to be handmade, 5.5" x 8.5" black-and-white affairs, with a focus on niche and retro videogames. I'm accepting:
- Illustrations, photographs, collage, or other graphical media (5.5" x 8.5" or smaller -- remember, there will be a white margin around the edge of each page!)
- Narrative one-shots (1000-1500 words would be ideal)
- Poetry (30 lines or less)
- Comics (8 pages or less, with each page measuring 5.5" x 8.5")
For images, I accept .png, .jpg/jpeg, and .tiff files!
For text, I accept Google Docs, Ellipsus docs, .doc or docx files, and .txt files! Just don't send it pre-formatted in, for instance, a .pdf, because it's a pain to extract the text and re-flow it into Affinity Publisher.
If accepted, contributors will be paid for their work at a rate of $30 USD per piece (up to $50 depending on complexity of the piece and amount of submissions received) and complimentary hard and digital copies of the zine. To submit a piece or pitch an idea for one, please send an email to pkohberger at gmail dot com with the words "Magic Mirror" in the subject line. Please keep in mind that the due date for submissions for this issue is December 31st, 2025!
(A note on mature content: while this is not specifically a NSFW zine, some mature content is allowed; censored nudity is fine, as well as discussion of heavy or sexual topics. If you're concerned about where to draw the line, please send an email.)
